Final Project
Section 2

Eleanor of Aquitaine lived a happy life in her homeland. She was the daughter of the Duke of Aquitaine, William X, meaning that she was the heiress of the House of Poitiers.
One day, her father was mysteriously found dead.

Eleanor became the Duchess of Aquitaine.
Although this region was located in the coast of France, it was culturally very different. People spoke Aquitanian, an isolate language, different from French. They were mostly pagan, not Catholic like the rest of France.
Because Aquitaine was a beautiful place, it made other leaders in France jealous. The King of France wanted all its wealth and glory.

Louis VI was the head of the House of Capet and the King of France. He had all he wanted in life except one thing: Aquitaine.
However, he feared that invading Aquitaine would be a centrifugal force, meaning that it would weaken and drive France apart.
So the King decided he wanted his son, Louis VII, to marry the Duchess of Aquitaine.
