Once upon a time,

in the beautiful land of Palestine,

There lived a beautiful tree.

Tall, reaching to the sky.

With branches open wide.

Embracing the sun, the wind, 

the moon at night.

What a sight! What a sight!

Day after day, the bigger and bigger.

The children played around it, sat under it, hid behind it, picked its olives and squeezed the olives into oil and yummy!

The children grew.

The tree grew. 

Their children played around it, sat under it, hid behind it, picked its olives, squeezed the olives into oil and yummy!

Year after year, the olive tree kept standing. Watching generation after generation come to play around it, sit under it, hide behind it, pick its olives and squeeze the olives into yummy oil.

One gloomy day, a bad giant came from a far away land.

He had bad intentions and destruction planned.

Next to the beautiful Palestinian olive tree he came to stand.

Holding a big hurtful axe in his hand.

With his evil axe he hit his first blow.

The tree did not move and kept standing in owe.

He hit his second blow. The tree did not move, and the giant did not go.

He started to become more furious, sweat started to drip from his brows.

He blew his third blow, harder this time though. The tree was in deep pain that grew and grew.

"He can't pluck me from my land.

He can't succeed in what he planned.

Since  more than 5000 years this is where I stand.

Generation after generation grew in front of me. I will not move, I will resist, I will withstand."
