The tower, rising well above the rooftops of any neighboring buildings, is not a turbine designed to generate electricity. Rather, it's a simple empty cylinder with adjustable louvres at the top.

The primary purpose is simple: a tall cylinder is capable of provoking a convection current as hot air rises simply by standing there. This creates a natural current of air flowing from the street level of the city and up out the top of the tower - the breeze it creates pulls hot air out of the city and makes life in the plaza below considerably more pleasant.

Key elements of the Sustainability  City include:

Apart from periphery roads and car parking areas, the development is a car-free site.

The parking areas are topped by solar shading featuring solar panels that are connected to an electrical grid to supply energy into different sections of the city.

Panels are also placed on the roofs of all of the houses. The construction waste is reused to furnish the public spaces. 

The townhouses have UV reflective paint to reduce the thermal heat gain inside the houses

The theme for the event is “Connecting Minds, Creating The Future” and Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity are the sub-themes.

The megaevent is designed to showcase the scientific achievements of different countries

190 countries will be participating and more than 25 million visitors are expected to show up at the expo. The Expo 2020 Dubai will have individual pavilions for each participating country, where they will be displaying their cultural and technological assets
