In the world, there are 6 groups (called kingdoms) that living things fall under.

Under the Eukarya domain, there are four kingdoms. These kingdoms are plants, animals, fungi, and protists.

Archaebacteria and Eubacteria are the other two kingdoms, which are their own domain.

In order to be classified under one of these 6 kingdoms, there are certain characteristics used to group similar things together in each of these groups.

Being able to make one's own food from sunlight (also called being an autotroph) is one characteristic of plants. They are also multicellular meaning their cells are complex.

While animals also have complex cells, they are heterotrophs. This means that they get their food from consuming other matter. This could be plants, fruits, or other animals.
