PLOT

5
First chapter: In the first chapter Tim starts talking about the jokes that he and all the children in his town said about Mr. Tarry, they were very afraid of him, they thought he was a monster and said horrible things about him, although Tim's mother was upset about it. One day Tim, Nickel and Skiv were playing jokes and games in the village but when they got bored Tim suggested they go to Mr. Tarry's house. Skiv was very scared but Tim convinced him with money, they planned to distract him and play with the ladder that was in Mr. Tarry's house.
6
Second chapter: In the second chapter Tim entered Mr. Tarry's house through the window, he thought about turning back because he was too scared but he had a reputation to take care of, he was too brave to back out. When he went in, he made noise and started to hear Mr. Tarry approaching, then Mr. Tarry shouted at him asking him what he wanted, Tim thought he was a good man to try to calm his fear. Tim then told him he just wanted to talk to him but Mr. Tarry told him he didn't want to. Mr. Tarry started banging on the door until Tim's arm was hurt and started bleeding. The last thing Tim remembered were the words Mr. Tarry was shouting to the sky, he was very worried.
7
Third chapter: the third chapter narrates that Tim stood up and looked at his wound and the dried blood that remained. He was lying on an old couch, the room he was in was very dirty and old, and it was in ruins. It was a very unpleasant place, then Tim began to feel much colder and realized that Mr. Larry was above him looking at him.

8
Fourth chapter: in this chapter Mr. Tarry unwraps Tim's wound, it was still bleeding a lot but it was better. Mr. Tarry starts a conversation with Tim and Tim for a moment thought that Mr. Tarry is not that rude and unpleasant, Tim tells him his name and tells him about school and his family. Tim has a younger sister and his father abandoned them when he was younger. Then Mr. Tarry asks him to go home because it was getting dark and told him that if he was asked about the wound to say that he had been bitten by a dog.
9
Fifth chapter: in the fifth chapter Tim's mother asks him about the wound on his arm, Tim lies to her and tells her that it was a dog bite, although his mother is suspicious and tells him that it wasn't a dog and that she will defend him from anyone, Tim denied it even though he knew that his mother could go to confront Mr. Tarry. Then he met Skiv and Nickel who were very anxious to know what had happened to him, Tim shut them up and told them that although he was dangerous and scary he was not a monster, they shut up and walked away, Tim was a little upset about everything they were saying about Mr. Tarry. Then they told Tim that they had not found the ladder, that in the shed there were old things, a gun and further down a secret door where the ladder could probably be, but then they told Tim that maybe it did not exist. Tim got upset and decided they should go back.
10
Sixth chapter: Tim returned with his friends to Mr. Tarry's house, he thought that because they already knew each other he might have the key to the secret door, but he didn't. Mr. Tarry started to approach Tim very furiously and was yelling at him, he was blaming him for something that Tim didn't understand. Tim was very scared and decided to run out of the house, he wanted keep away from the house, but then he heard noise at the back of the house, Skiv and Nickel had caused a mess and everything was falling out of the shed so Tim came back. He found a lot of old things, dust and spiders and then he could see a picture of a young girl who looked very happy, she was probably the reason why Mr. Tarry had been blaming him.
11
Seventh chapter: The three of them were already together in the shed. Tim told his friends about Mr. Tarry's accusations, then they continued looking and found a photo album, it was Mr. Tarry's family. Tim wanted to keep looking but they had to get out of there, so he decided to take the album with him and then they left the house.

12

Eighth chapter: Tim was on his way home from school and passed by Mr. Tarry's again, this time without his friends, he was scared to be alone. After passing through the garden he entered an abandoned room full of feminine objects that looked like a shrine and inside a drawer he found a key. But then Tim threw a vase and made a noise and Mr. Tarry got there, so Tim went out the window and as he left he heard Mr. Tarry shouting and lamenting about the mess Tim had made in the room.
13
Ninth chapter: Tim told his friends that he had taken the key from Mr. Tarry's neck while he was sleeping, he was lying to them. Then Tim's mom arrived so his friends left and agreed to check the shed the next morning, they come up with a road map, Skiv and Nickel were quite warm about the idea and the next day they went into the shed with the key, when they opened it they found some stairs and everything was dark.

14
Tenth chapter: they split up so they could look for the ladder inside the shed, Nickel was nervous but Tim calmed him down. Tim told them they would meet again in an hour, he followed and was very scared, then he found a kind of river, it was water coming from somewhere and it was very dirty, then Tim found a bridge and decided to cross it.

15
Eleventh chapter: Tim followed that path, it was lighted and at the end he found a door, after several attempts he managed to open it and found a table with a drawing, on the walls there were more of these drawings, they were sketches of stairs. They had a lot of things written on them and some of them were looking up to the sky, in one of these drawings there was the image of a very happy woman but on her there was a hand.

16
Twelfth chapter: Then Tim understood that it was scarlet fever, a disease that had been in town, his father got it and got better. Tim remembers a girl who had also had the disease. Tim's mother had told them that his father had died, it wasn't true, he had cheated on his mother with another girl and then left.
