What is food insecurity? Many people ask this question, but none find answers. Is it lack of food? Lack of money? Who knows. One thing is certain. It is not a good thing.

Food insecurity refers to the uncertain availability of food and beverages. 

It means not having  money to buy food, or easy access to it.

People who suffer from food insecurity often face poverty, homelessness, lack of medical care, etc.

It leads to malnutrition which causes various illnesses.

Though hunger and food insecurity are closely related, they are distinct concepts because food diversity refers to a lack of financial resources for food at the household level.

Food insecurity impacts around 40 million Americans and 12 million American children.

African Americans and Latinos are among the most affected populations.

Children - they can't work and are affected by the nutrition of their parents.

Elderly - because their nutritional needs change and often suffer serious illnesses or death.

People in rural areas - because they don't have access to food.

Where does it happen?

- In developing countries in Africa and Asia (The Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen, and Madagascar)

- In Central and South America

- In the United States of America

- Everywhere where people don't have normal access to food
