"What is the Constitution?" Billy asked his Papa.
"The Constitution is like the rules for our country. Each rule is called an Amendment," Papa replied.

"What are these Amendments?" Billy asked.
"Let's go outside, I will show you." Papa told Billy.

"See the man in the church," Papa said, "He can do that because of the 1st Amendment."
The 1st Amendment says that everyone can be religious, say what they want, write what they want and meet when they want.

"See the man about to go hunting, he can do that because of the 2nd Amendment," Papa explained.
The 2nd Amendment allows people to own weapons, and form organized militias.

Have we ever had a soldier in our house," Papa asked. "No," Billy replied. "That is because of the 3rd Amendment," Papa said.
The 3rd Amendment protect people's property from the government, and says that government can't force people to house soldiers.

"Has our house ever been searched by the police?" Papa asked. "No," Billy replied. "That is because of the 4th Amendment."
The 4th Amendment protects people from being searched without reason.

"Can the police force you to get yourself in trouble?" Papa asked. "No," Billy answered. "That's because of the 5th Amendment."
The 5th Amendment says that you can't be forced to incriminate themselves by police.

"If you are charged with a crime, are you automatically guilty?" Papa questioned. "No," Billy responded. "That's because of the 6th Amendment," Papa replied.
The 6th Amendment says that if you are accused of a crime, you are allowed a fair, free, and speedy trial by an unbiased jury.
