This page is dedicated to all children and families worldwide that want to know more about Illness and Infection Preventions!

It's important to know about illness and infection preventions because germs can make you and others around you very sick.

Germs are carried by everyone and are transferred from person to person by sharing a virus, bacteria, fungus, or parasite.

Germs generally have symptoms and a cause, but some germs may not show any signs or symptoms at all.

Not all germs are bad or harmful either. The human body needs certain types of germs to keep the body's immune system in balance. For example, “the food we eat is broken down by the bacteria in our bowels, and those bacteria form vitamin k, which is essential for healthy bodily function” (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2011a).
Not all Germs are Bad or Harmful, some help keep the body's immune system balanced.

Illness and infections occur when tiny germs too small to be seen with the human eye, also known as microbes, throw the person or human immune system off-balance. “This can happen as a result of poor nutrition associated with deficiencies in vitamins, fibers, and enzymes” (DiseaseEducation.com, n.d.b), poor physical condition due to lack of proper exercise, and stress” (Groark & Song, 2012, 6.1).

Ways to prevent illness and infections!!!
Wash Your Hands Frequently:
One way you can prevent illness and infections is by washing your hands frequently. Washing your hands with soap and water often can prevent the spread of illness and infections if done correctly. Germs live on everything a person can touch, so washing your hands for about 20 seconds or by singing the “Happy Birthday” song while washing your hands is a great way to prevent microbes from entering the body.
Cover Your Mouth When You Cough or Sneeze:
Coughing and sneezing without covering your mouth can spread germs through the air to infect others. You can protect your mouth with your arm, sleeve, elbow, or tissue rather than using your hand to prevent the spread of illness and infections. So, this is another excellent way to avoid illness and infections.
