Love of a narwal

    On the night of a full moon, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean a narwal was born. Her name was Misty. While her family, the pod of narwhals was resting, Misty saw a little snack, a shrimp. She decided to go swim after it. While she was following the shrimp, she saw a sight that was amazing. A thing great explorers would pay all the money in the world just to get a peek at. It was a large sunken ship.  Not just any ship though, the most special ship in the sea. The ship was the Titanic! Misty was brave and decided she wanted to explore the ship, but was only able to catch a glimpse of it because she had to get back home to go to sleep.  Unfortunately, she forgot which way her pod was so she did not know how to get home. That is when she discovered a seaweed patch and rested there. She stayed there for a few weeks until she made a decision one day to go explore. 

    Misty became very brave and adventurous as the years passed. Then one day a little fish swam up to her and said, "hello." Misty said, "hi there, what's you're name?" The little fish responded saying, "my name is Fred."  Then Fred said, "would you like to hear a story?" Misty said, "yes," and Fred started the story: 

    One night a ship was crossing the middle of the Atlantic Ocean under a full moon. That ship had a precious cargo, a treasure chest filled with gold. The trick was,  there was only one way to find the treasure. One creature that had been born right after the ship sank and shall swim to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and their wise decisions shall lead them to the map of these riches. This shall keep the wealth and for those worthy who seek the treasure. Those who were not born on that full moon are not worthy. They shall sink to the bottom of the ocean and will be forgotten forever. 

Misty said, "thank you, that story is incredible!" Then Fred said, "you're welcome" and then swam off.

    Misty knew that she was someone that could find the treasure because her intentions were pure and was born under a full moon in the middle of the Atlantic Sea. She kept wondering if her decisions to seek the treasure were wise and if she could find the map. 

But if she were wrong, she would not want to be forgotten or sunken to the bottom of the ocean. If she was right she could become famous. She would like that! It would be the greatest achievement the sea had ever seen. She didn’t know if she was worthy but she knew she had the determination. As she passed she saw a crew of documentary filmers.

    Misty kept swimming until one day she reached the shore. She had arrived in Greenland. She saw seals riding the waves and then the seals left to go see something. What was it? Penguins of course! Misty also wanted to get a peek of the penguins, but she didn’t know how. Then she saw seals swimming towards a hole in the ice and saw more penguins. She wanted to get close to the group of tourists who were there to see if there were any more animals, and there were. That is when Misty saw a polar bear staring at something, it was a baby seal left unattended! The seal's name was Flippers. As we all know, polar bears hunt seals like Flippers so, in a flash Misty quickly swam, grabbed Flippers, and swam away. She knew baby seals could not hold their breath for long so she found a hole through the ice let the Flippers breathe. Then she asked Flippers to follow her and he said, "yes." She returned Flippers to his parents,  They said they couldn’t thank her enough. Then Mrs. Seal, Flippers mom, invited Misty to stay for dinner. They said that they would enjoy the company. So Misty said, "yes." 

    The next day when Misty woke up she saw Flippers in bed. Flippers woke up immediately and went to get some leftover cod as breakfast. He offered misty some fish and she said, "no thanks, but thank you for the offer." Flippers said, "Misty, where do you live?" Misty didn’t know what to say. For as long as she could remember, she had always been traveling. She could hardly even remember her home and her pod. That was when Flippers made her a very generous offer.  He said, "would you like to stay here? My parents are ok with it and I would love to have a friend close by. I understand if you say no because I get that you travel a lot." Misty said that she will think about it. "Where are you from," Flippers asked Misty where was she from. Now here’s where it gets interesting, she didn’t know! "I do not know," Misty said. Flippers said what do you mean? I was born here, in the seal lair, How don't remember where you were born?  Misty wasn’t so sure about her memories but knew everything would be ok because all that mattered was that she was there and she was alive. 

    "Wow, it must have been a lot travel from where you grew up to get here," Flippers said. "It was," Misty says. Flippers was curious. "But where did you stop?" Flippers asked. "In seaweed patches most of the time," Misty said. Flippers still wanted to know more. "Why did you choose to travel to Greenland?" "I don’t know. What kind of seal are you?" Misty said. "I am a harp seal" Flippers replied. Misty informed Flippers she is a narwal. Flippers said, "beluga whales are very similar to narwhals, maybe even related. Other narwhals have been seen swimming in beluga pods." "Where is your pod?" Flippers asked. 

    "Well, it began in the Canadian sea, around Northern Canada. My pod was swimming to the Atlantic Ocean until it got dark. We decided to rest in an open area in the sea. That way we could not be hunted." "How could nothing hunt you?" Flippers asked. "Well you see Flippers, because the way to hunt is too often stalk, ambush, tackle, and eat and there are no stalking opportunities in the open. But I got separated from my pod when I saw some shrimp and I wanted a midnight snack. I swam after it. That is when I saw what was the largest ship in the sea, the Titanic." The titanic got hit by an iceberg. "It’s said that a narwal born right after the titanic hit the ocean floor and that narwal finds treasure years later the treasure is hidden in a coral reef under the sea. It’s said that wise decisions will lead them to treasure. But any kind of animal could be born under a full moon. It couldn’t possibly be me, could it?"

    "Well come to think of it, when you were little, did you see anything about the story?" flippers asked. 

As a matter of fact, I did. I must have seen the Titanic, that must have been what it was! 

    Four years later Misty was now 16 and Flippers was15 . Misty and Flippers were now old enough to leave the seal lair. Misty set off to the middle of the Atlantic and Flippers was going to find a new home and settle down there.

    Two years after they left, Misty came across a place to rest so she decided to stay there. Little did she know that was also where Flippers had traveled to and it was his home!

    At first before he saw who was there, Flippers thought Misty was a polar bear. Then he shouted, "who is here?" Misty said, "I am Misty, I am a narwal." Misty is that you? it's me Flippers, the seal. They both rushed to see each other. Then Flippers said, "here, take this map and follow it. You never know where it will take you." "Thank you, bye!" Misty said.
