Stella's Adventures

Stella lived in the New World with her family and her dog, Lucia. Her relatives had immigrated from England a few generations back. Stella liked it in America, but her parents were having second thoughts.

The British Monarchy was becoming more oppressive. After the Sugar Act and the Stamp Act increased taxes, the colonists had enough, and resistance was starting to form. Stella's parents thought it might be a good idea to go back to Europe until things calmed down.

A few years passed, and tensions were still increasing, but nothing too tragic had happened. Stella had convinced her parents to let her stay in America where she was comfortable because they weren't actively in danger.

Everything came crashing down again when the Boston Massacre happened, and some of their neighbors lost their lives. Stella's parents told her that this conflict was becoming too dangerous, and they had to move.
To Stella's dismay, there was no arguing with her parents on this one. Her mom told her that they were going to France for a little while to live with her aunt. They packed up their things and boarded a boat.

Stella had a hard time settling in at first, but she actually really enjoyed her new home! The food was great, and the people were nice. But wondering if her friends were safe back in America worried her sick!
Soon enough, her fears became reality! Stella and her family heard the news that revolutionaries back in Boston had thrown tea in the sea as retaliation to taxes! This had Britain extremely angry.
While chaos ensued back in America, Stella and her parents were grateful that they had escaped but still kept close tabs through letters and the paper on their friends and family back in the US. Their friends had recently told them that the revolutionaries were gathering together to agree on the terms for a new government!

I want to go home, I wish the war would end.
Soon enough, Stella's wish was answered! The news was spreading around that America had officially declared independence and was working on forming a new government!

Have you heard?!

Stella ran home with the news and begged her parents to return home, saying, "it's safe now!"
But, her parents still wanted to be safe and wait until the revolution was officially over.
