Maria was walking her dog one day and found a bumble bee who was sitting on a flower.
She noticed that the tiny bumble bee looked sad.
Even though the bee seemed scary, Maria decided to be brave and ask the bumble bee what was wrong.

"Hello there, my name is Maria and this is my dog Sparky. What is wrong little bee?" Maria asked.
The little bumble bee looked up at her. He was surprised that Maria was talking to him.
"Are...are you talking to me?" The bee said.
Maria giggled,
"Well of course silly, why wouldn't I. You looked sad." she said.

Maria knelt down as the bumble bee started talking.
"Well, you see. You are the very first person to talk to me." the bumble bee said.
A small tear fell from the bumble bee's eye.
"Everyone is so afraid of me when they hear my wings buzz. They think I am scary."
"Well I was scared at first but not anymore." Maria said.

The bumble bee wiped the tear away and started to fly around Maria's head.
"You really aren't scared of me?" he asked.
Maria giggled,
"Nope! Not anymore, in fact, I think you are very friendly." she said.

The bumble bee got excited.
"I am friendly!" he said.
"A lot of people are scared of me because I have a stinger. But there is no reason to be scared, my stinger is only used to protect me against dangerous things."
The bumble bee explained.

Woof! Woof!

"Woof! Woof!"
Maria giggled,
"What is it Sparky?" she asked.
Sparky started jumping around.
"Okay, I'll ask him." she said.

"Sparky wants to know what you are doing out in the woods all by yourself." Maria said.
"Well you see, I am a worker bee. There are thousands of us that go out into the world and pollinate all of the flowers." the bumble bee explained.
"Woof! Woof!" Sparky barked again.
"You're right Sparky, we don't know what pollinate means. Can you explain it Mr. Bumble Bee?" she asked.

"Well you see, everyday us bee's go out into the world for work. We gather food and water and bring it back to our home, the Bee Hive. During our work, we get this powdery stuff from the flower stuck to us called, Pollen." the bumble bee explained.
"Oh no!" Maria worriedly said.
"No, it's okay. That's supposed to happen. You see, when we land on other flowers that are the same, we spread the pollen and it helps make new flowers!" the bumble bee said.
