The Natural Hair Movement is a movement meant to influence men and women of African descent to love their natural hair.
This movement fights for this because of the unequal treatment and social injustices that people of color are facing. This problem with "hair" dominantly resides with people of color, simply because of the way it appears to the eye. It is often seen as " Unprofessional" and " displeasing" simply because of texture and pattern of the curl.
This is important to the movement because hair is something that shouldn't be denied or overlooked simply because of the way it looks. Additionally, hair is such an important part of African culture; it has deep roots, and has a special history.
A particular example of natural hair injustice was a Protest at Pretoria Highschool for Girls . The situation occurring around August 2016 and took place in Hatfield, Pretoria in Gauteng province in South Africa at the schools annual fair to raise money for the school.
This protest arose because of the unjust code of conduct against one's with natural hair and the years of unfair treatment by the school. The staff discouraging students of color to not speak their native language, influencing them to straighten their hair because of its appearance, and all in all criticizing and picking on students of color.
The protest included the main leader 13- year old Zulaikha Patel, her fellow peers, and the school staff.
