This is a story using my dog in mind, but instead of being our family dog, she turns into a farm dog here. Hazel is a lost 6 month old puppy wandering the streets of Traverse City when a woman finds her and takes her to the Cherryland Humane Society where she hopes to find a new home. A 10 year old boy and his parents are looking for a lovable pet, but also a pup they can put to work on their farm. She overcomes her fears of the animals who are bigger than her.

One summer afternoon, there was a 6 month old Australian Shepherd puppy who was lost wandering the streets of Traverse City.

Her collar had "Hazel" written on it, but no phone number to call. The kind lady decided to take her into the Cherryland Humane Society.

Where did you come from? Let's take you somewhere safe.

Hazel spent about 3 months in the humane society, until a family of three came in. They were looking for a puppy to take home to their farmhouse.

WOOF!

The 10 year old boy, Finn, walks over to Hazel and instantly falls in love with her! Hazel sniffs Finn and licks his face in excitement.

She's perfect! Can we get her?
Yes, you can help your dad teach her about the farm and her new job.

They get Hazel loaded into the car and start driving back to their farmhouse. Hazel hangs outside the window the whole ride home, but deep down, she is nervous to see her new home.

When Hazel's new family drives up their long driveway, she immediately notices the long fences leading up to her new home. When Finn's dad parks the car, Finn climbs out and Hazel follows.

Hazel looks around and notices animals grazing the yard. She sees sheep, goats and cows.

Hook her up on a leash and we will take her to learn about the animals she will be herding

Finn and his dad walk Hazel over to the sheep first. Hazel hid behind Finn's legs in fear.

BAA BAA!
Finn's dad takes the leash and walks Hazel closer to the sheep. She is scared at first, but then she starts to sniff them. She starts to wag her tail in excitement.

Hazel is then taken over to the goats. This time she was not scared. She walked right up to the goats proudly and sniffed them. She then started chasing them around their pen.
