Imagine the different ways children can learn about prison and incarceration. What would work? What wouldn't? Which kids need to learn about prison and the people in prison the most?
If no child needs to talk about prison, go to page 3. If it's the ones with bad behavior and broken families, go to page 6. If it's every kid, turn to page 13.
Hmm... It seems like a non-issue at the high school! Well, it sounds like there isn't a huge need for a curriculum on the prison. After all, kids aren't really talking about it Auburn High School, nor should they be. Go to page 4 to see if the elementary schoolers talk about the prison.

Nope! At Owasco, it's also a non-issue. There seems to be no need to talk incarceration. Auburn's prison employs plenty of parents but it is what it is.
So Auburn doesn't really talk about the prison with its kids. After all, kids are too young or not ready to learn about something like prison, right?
But wait... What about the misbehaving kids? The ones from broken families who don't show up and don't get good grades? Turn to page 6.
There's no way we can let the kids with parents who are divorced/incarcerated, alcoholic, drug addicts, or otherwise continue down the same path. Kids should see the prison for what it is and meet people who have been locked away; we can't let them become criminals some day. If you live in Waterloo, go to page 9. If you live in Auburn, go to page 7.
Auburn High School's Youth Assistance Program (YAP):
G, a social worker at AHS, says the YAP is meant to show kids what would happen if they didn't get their act together. Prisoners speak harshly to visiting students, and COs show shanks to the kids. Kids get to talk with incarcerated people in Auburn to hear their stories. G said the YAP has changed over time from "the gauntlet" (referring to Scared Straight style discipline) to the current day visit.
