Hey! Why do people care about equity vs. equality? Everyone should just get over it!

Equity vs. Equality is an issue that affects all aspects of life. Even if it's not obvious, you probably have some experiences where the issue was present.

Well I need some examples because I don't get why it matters!

Buckle up!

Imagine you are a slower reader but have a timed 30-minute comprehension test. By the time you get through the first paragraph, you hear students flipping their pages. Finally, when the 30 minutes is over, you didn't finish the test and don't remember a thing you read. 

Equality says you get that 30 minutes and that's it, do better next time.

Equity says that you can get taken to a more private area, with a longer time limit, nothing crazy but at least another 15 minutes would've helped! If the extra time doesn't help, maybe an adapted version of the text/test are available.
