Sam
By: Someone you don't know

One fine snowy day on Snow White Hill, Lexi, a little girl,
was playing in the yard when her mother came out. "Lexi, I
need you to go down to the village to get some wood and a
loaf of bread. We're all out." "OK Mom," Lexi said. Lexi got
the money and the basket from her mother and went toward
the village.

Lexi got to the village and got the wood. She started to
walk toward the bakery when she heard a small cry behind
the bakery. "I think I'm going nuts," Lexi said and walked
into the bakery.

Lexi went into the bakery and greeted the baker. "Hello,
John," said Lexi. "Hello, Lexi," said the baker. "I need a loaf
for my mom," Lexi said. "Susan? She always needs bread. Oh
well. Here's a loaf," said John. "Thanks, and there's one more
thing." "Yeah?" said John. "I think I heard a noise behind
your bakery," said Lexi. "Oh. That was Sam you heard."
"Sam?" said Lexi confused. "Sam is a dog. He's been here
forever. I found him a week ago and nobody wants him," John
said, "Do you want him?" "Sure," said Lexi, "How much?"
"He's free," said John, "Call him and take him home"
"Thanks," said Lexi. "Anytime."

"Sam," Lexi called. For a while, nothing happened then a
medium sized, gray dog came running toward her. Lexi looked
down at Sam. "Poor little dog. You must be tired. Follow me,"
she said to Sam. Sam and Lexi walked home.

When Lexi came home with Sam, her mother asked, "What
is that?" "It's Sam. I got him from the bakery. John said he
found him and said Sam needed a home. Can we keep him?"
Lexi asked and explained. "Well, if he needs a home, yes, we
can keep him, but tomorrow, you need to get food and
supplies for him," said Susan. "Thank you, Mom," said Lexi.
They ate dinner, and Lexi hugged her mother goodnight and
went upstairs.

That night, Lexi and Sam went upstairs. Lexi got ready
for bed and sat on her bed. "You know, you can sleep up on my
bed," said Lexi. Sam just stared at her. "Tomorrow, we can
go to the village and get some supplies for you," said Lexi.
Once again, Sam stared at her. "Oh well, night Sam." Sam
jumped on the bed, curled up and fell asleep. So did Lexi.
