Once upon a time, a long time ago, in the island of Crete, there lived a king named Minos. He was very powerful and evil, too. He had a daughter and a son. He once travelled to Athens to participate in the games taking place in honour of goddess Athena during which he got killed. His father was very angry and wanted to take revenge, to punish the Athenians for the death of his son.
In order to show his power and his strength, Minos hired Deadalus, a famous architect, to design a labyrinth, a maze, for him. Minotaur, a monster who had the head of a bull and the body of a man, used to live in the Labyrinth. Minos threatened the king of Athens that if he didn't send him 7 young men and 7 young women for Minotaur to eat every 9 years, he would attack Athens. Now the time had come and Theseus, son of the King of Athens, was one of the 7 young men.
In the island of Crete, Theseus met Ariadni, Minos's daughter, and they fell in love with each other. Ariadni wanted to help Theseus and asked Daedalus for advice. He told her to give Theseus a ball of string and tell him to tie the string to the door and unrolle it as he moved through the maze, Ariadni did so, indeed, She also gave him a sword to use it to kill the Minotaur.
