This book is dedicated to my two nieces, Haven and Emery. I became a newly aunt within the past two years. Both of my nieces love being read to and looking at their books. I thought it would be perfect for them to have a book that uses their names as the main characters.

This morning my mom helped me get ready. She even let me pick out my outfit.
"It is the first day of school! I am so nervous for First Grade!" I said.
"I wonder if my teacher is nice and if I will make any friends."
"I am scared I will not make any friends," I cried. My mom said with excitement, "Haven, once I pick you up from school, we will go to the pet store!"
I screamed with excitement, "I cannot wait, thank you mom!" I said.

"In the summer, my mom and I would always go to the pet store when I was having a bad day!"
I said to my mom, "Mom.. I wonder if the other kids will like me because I am different."

"Just because you have a harder time paying attention and focusing, does not mean you will not make any friends," said mom. "The children will love to be friends with you for who you are."

As she dropped me off at school, I began to wonder if anyone would try to be my friend. I was scared they would not want to be my friend because of my ADHD.

My teacher was so nice and she even gave me a hug.
After Ms. Carter helped me hang up my coat and book bag, I noticed everyone else was playing together.

I decided to sit at my desk and wait for someone to ask me to play.
As the day went on, I noticed that no one tried to be my friend.

I overheard one little boy in my class say he did not want to play with me because I am jittery and interrupt too much.
I heard one girl named Emery say that they should play with me but no one else wanted to.

I was upset with how my first day of school went. Ms. Carter walked me to my mom and said, "Haven was shy and did not want to join or talk to the other students. I could tell she was having a hard day."
As we headed to the car, I told my mom I wanted to be friends with Emery but was scared she would not want to be my friend.

As my mom and I walked into the pet store she said, "Tomorrow when you go to school, you can tell your classmates you are getting a dog."
"I am getting a puppy?!" I screamed. "We are getting a puppy?" I cried.

My mom hugged me and said, "Yes, you deserve a puppy! The puppy will support you and will always be there for you when you are having good or bad days."

My mom explained, "If you are scared to make friends tomorrow, you can start talking by saying you are getting a puppy."
"It is a good way for you to talk to the other children. Just remember the puppy will always love you and be there to cuddle when you get home," said mom.

The next day I woke up excited for school. I could not wait to tell Ms. Carter and the students about the puppy I was getting.
As my mom dropped me off at school, she reminded me we would be going to the pet store after school again.
