All the kids in school always said Annie had the best school lunch!

But the next day Annie was very upset because her lunch was HEALTHY!
Broccoli?!
YUCKY!

Mom, why was there
broccoli in my lunch
today?!
When Annie got home she asked her mom about her lunch.

Annie's mom explained to her that it is important for children to have a well balanced diet.
Annie, eating a well-balanced diet will help you feel better, have more energy, be happier, improve your brain abilities, and keep you healthy and strong (Familydoctor.org editorial staff, 2000).

Grains: Whole grains provide additional vitamins and minerals in addition to helping you feel full for longer, which can help prevent weight gain ("Why choose whole grains for your kids?," n.d.).

Vegetables and fruits: Half your plate should be composed of fresh veggies and fruit (Groark, C. J., & Song, L. A., 2012). They are essential for your health and help prevent sickness. Helping to ensure a healthy growth and development. Boost the immune system and make it easier to fight off sickness ("Food for children: Why fruits and vegetables are important - HealthXchange," n.d.)
