There was something different about this girl,
something strange. Julia entered our second grade class
late last month. Rumors spread like wild fire about this
girl. Other girls say she has super powers because she
works on the crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles
during recess instead of playing hopscotch with the other
girls and myself. I feel bad because she is a very pretty
girl with light blond hair braided into two pig tails. Julia
has light blue eyes and a beautiful smile that attracts all
the boys.
After recess yesterday, Julia called together all the
girls, including myself. She muttered, “Hello. I would
really like to know all of you better. Would you girls
consider coming to my house tomorrow night to have a
pizza party and a sleep over?”
Many girls laughed, but I felt hopeless to help her so

I shout back, “Yes, Julia, that sounds great. I think we
will all love to come over.” I spoke for everyone because
these girls like me so if I go, they will also follow.
“Thanks Anne.” Julia says to me as she looked into my
eyes.
That leads us to now. Right now Jennifer, Lauren,
Ciara, and I are in my mother’s van traveling to Julia’s
house. These are the three girls that wanted to go to the
sleepover. The other two girls couldn’t make it.
Although I enjoy hanging out with Jennifer and Ciara,
something about them makes them seem a little mean.
They are more aggressive then most of the girls in our
class, but I will enjoy getting to know them better
tonight.
As my mom pulls into the driveway, we grab our

sleeping bags and pillows and run to Julia’s front door.
She is waiting patiently, but she is anxious as she
speaks, “Thanks for coming tonight. This is my dog
Floppy. There is pizza in the dinning room. Please come
in.”
At dinner, we talk about the boys at school. She really
likes one, but she is scared because she is the new girl.
It is a nice dinner, that is, until Floppy runs into the room
and grabs the pizza box. We don't have seconds because
we find the rest of our pizza all over the floor in Floppy’s
room. Floppy has some strong teeth.
“Well dinner is ruined. Everything turns out bad for
me. Let’s just go watch T.V.”
“Its fine, Julia, really. The pizza was great.” I assure.
After about an hour of silence and watching T.V,

Julia spits out, “Its nine o’clock. We probably should be
going to bed now. Let’s go upstairs.”
The girls, including myself, were stunned. “Are you
sure, Julia?”
“Yep. It will be better for tomorrow if we go to sleep
now.” Julia responds.
Julia leads the way. We brush our teeth and roll out
our sleeping bags in Julia’s room. From the door of her
room, her bed is in the on the opposite wall to the left, so
we place our sleeping bags to the right of her bed, almost
straight in front of the door.
“Did any of you bring a teddy bear to cuddle with?”
asks Julia with a sincere voice.
“No I didn’t, but that’s a very cute bear.” I respond.
“Does it have a name?”
“He is named Stitch. My parents gave me him in the

hospital when I was born. Stitch reminds me of the days
when my daddy was still here. Floppy tore off his ear
once, but that’s the one time I had a problem.”
“That’s so cute, my parents never gave me anything
when I was born.” Ciara says to Julia.
Julia goes over to the light switch and turns off the
light. I lie down on the far wall as she runs to her spot,
closest to the door and furthest from me. I wish she
would mover her sleeping bag closer mine because she
seems further away from the other girls and mine. I
begin to fall asleep immediately.
I wake up in the middle of the night. I have no idea
what time it is, but I hear the door squeak as it opens
slowly. I never open my eyes because I am just too
tired, but I assume Julia is going to use the bathroom. I
fall back asleep before I hear anyone come back.
