






The Maria Bieșu National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Chişinău, Moldova, is one of the leading opera and ballet theatres in Eastern Europe. It is housed in a building on the Boulevard Stefan the Great, one of the main roads in Chişinău. In 2012, it was given the name of the renowned opera singer Maria Bieșu.

Maria Bieshu was born on August 3, 1935 in the village of Volintiri, Akkerman district, then it was the Kingdom of Romania, and now in the Stefan Vodsky region of Moldova.
At the Chisinau Conservatory she studied with the teacher S.L. Zarifyan.
In parallel, in 1958-1960 she performed with the orchestra of folk instruments of the Song and Dance Ensemble "Fluerash".
After the state exams, she received an invitation to the Moldovan Opera and Ballet Theater (now the National Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Moldova named after Maria Biesu) in Chisinau.
The debut on the opera stage took place in the spring of 1962, when she sang the part of Tosca in the opera of the same name by G. Puccini.
She was not married. She had no children.
ended on May 16, 2012 in the Chisinau hospital "Lechsanupr" of the State Chancellery of the Republic of Moldova.
Who is Maria Bieshu?


It was founded in 1956 on the basis of the Moldavian Opera, Ballet and Drama Theatre, which in turn was created in 1955 on the basis of the Moldavian Music and Drama Theatre. The first director of the theater (1956-1964) was the composer D. G. Gershfeld - the theater opened on June 9, 1956 with a production of his opera "Grozovan".
