Canadians believe that we have 

certain Rights and Freedoms. 

These Rights and Freedoms are 

part of living in a free and democratic 

society.   In 

Canada we have a 

special document called The Charter 

of Rights and Freedoms. 

The Charter of Rights and Freedoms

 sets limits on what the 

government can do.  

Citizen Jennifer, Citizen Chelsey and 

Citizen Yom   are going to walk 

us through 

one part of The Charter 

of Rights and Freedoms.

              Fundamental Freedoms.   

Under The   Canadian of Rights and Freedoms 

Canadians have the freedom to.........  

express our opinion.

My friends and I are going on a   shopping trip 

to Londonderry Mall. Yom, Chelsey and I want 

to go to different stores. We decide to go to 

our favorite stores and meet back at the food 

courts.

choose your own religion.

As Catholics Chelsey, Yom and I go to a 

Catholic school. We celebrate Advent and Lent, 

and we believe in Jesus Christ.                                                                                                

The freedom to organize peaceful meetings 

and demonstrations.

Yom, Chelsey and I are going swimming at the 

YMCA on Friday night. We are going to go 

down the slides and then Chelsey said we have 

to change into our clothes to go home.

the freedom to associate with any person or 

group.

Yom, Chelsey and I were all texting at the 

same time. Chelsey texted a cat picture 

because Chelsey likes cats.   Then we started 

to chat about cats. 

Charter of Rights and Freedoms:  

                     Democratic Rights.

Under Charter of Rights and Freedoms all 

Canadians have the Democratic Rights to........

vote for members of the House of Commons. 

Yom, Chelsey and I are not yet old enough to 

vote.   When we are 18 we will vote in 

municipal, provincial and federal elections. I 

take this right very seriously and I will try to 

vote in every election when I am 18.

vote for a new government every 5 years. 

Yom, Chelsey and I decide that it would be a good 

idea for kids to wear seat belts on school buses. 

They go through the process of making a bill into   a 

law. Because we elect a new government at least at 

least every 5 years, when we are 18 there is a good 

chance it could be a law..

Charter of Rights and Freedoms:  

  Mobility Rights.

Under The Charter of Rights and Freedoms all 

Canadians have  mobility rights to........

move anywhere in Canada to earn a living 

there. 

Yom, Chelsey, and I all decide to move to 

another part of Canada.   I decide to stay here 

because my mom has a good job here.  

Chelsey wants to go and live in California....if 

her mom say yes.   Yom decides to go and live 

in California too.... if her mom and her family 

say yes.

Yom, Chelsey, and I are involved in a program 

that supports students living in other countries 

who do not have as much as we do.   We are happy 

to live in Canada and and are happy when we can 

go and visit our close friends and family in other 

countries. One day we might go and see Jennifer's 

cousin and aunt who live in Vietnam.
