About the Author

    Mary Kowalski is a seventh-grade student 

at Mosinee Middle School. Two of her favorite 

things to do are to read and draw. Mary has 

three sisters and four brothers. Her favorite 

animals are horses and wolves. She is very 

kind and caring to her friends and other 

people.

This is Elsa.

Elsa and her family are going to move to 

California.

Elsa lives in Wisconsin, and moving to 

California is a big move. Elsa is not excited to 

go to a new school.

Elsa has a form of Autism called Aspergers Syndrome 

which makes school for Elsa not so cool.

Elsa Is very smart, but being around people 

makes her feel weird.

Elsa's mom was also afraid of moving to 

California.

She was scared that they wouldn't accept Elsa 

because of her disability.

When they got to California they were all very 

tired.

The next day was going to be the first day of 

school, and Elsa was afraid.

Mommy, What's going to 

happen?

This was a bigger school, so it might cause problems 

for Elsa.

Elsa might want to run as fast as a horse back 

home because of the people. She might also 

have temper tantrums because of all of the 

stress for her.

It's the next day, and Elsa and her family are 

getting ready to go to school.

"Remember Elsa, everything is going to be 

alright. When you get there remember to go to 

Mrs. Elliot's room right away." Elsa's mom told 

her.

Elsa got to school, and she went to Mrs. Elliot's 

room right away.

"Hello Elsa! Such a nice day isn't it?" Mrs. Elliot 

asked.
