Traditional Economy:
-Non developed countries

-Farming, hunting, gathering
-Men and women have different roles
Market Economy:
-Resources owned and controlled by individuals
-People compete for profit
-Supply and demand
-Determines supply and set prices

Tribal Rule:
-Members of the tribe make group decisions

-Governments run by representatives that the people vote for
-Representatives make laws
Dictatorship:
-A country ruled by a single leader
-The leader has not been elected and may use force to keep control

River Civilizations

Egypt:
-Formed their civilization around the Nile
-The Nile flooded every summer creating fertile soil
-First paper used: Papyrus
-The Pharaoh (Egyptian King) was believed to be a god
-Polytheistic: Believed in many gods
-Built pyramids for Pharaohs for the afterlife
-Writing was the Hieroglyphics


Mesopotamia:
-Polytheistic: Believed in many gods
-Worshiped in temples called Ziggurats
-There were different social rankings
-Created glass and artwork
-The first story written: The Epic of Gilgamesh
-First set of laws: Hammurabi's Code
-Invented the wheel




Indus Valley:
-Farming villages became major cities
-They had a writing system that we can't read
-They had seals used for trade and documentation
-Don't know if they had powerful kings or pharaohs
-Archeologist believe that they believed in gods because their seals implied it
DISCLAIMER: We don't know much about the Indus Valley civilization because we don't know how to read their writing.
