Cells are like people, just very very small. They are
made of lots of different parts with different
functions, but each part is just as important as
another.
These parts are called "Organelles." These are like
the organs in a person.

The nucleus contains DNA and other important
things like ribosomes and proteins. This is the
control center of the cell.
The nucleus is like the brain of a person. The brain
controls things like growth and function of the
parts of the body.

The nucleolus of a cell is found inside the nucleus,
and makes ribosomes. This is where DNA is held
inside the nucleus.
The nucleolus of a cell is like of the part of the
brain that stores personal identity.

Chromatin, also found in the nucleus, protects DNA
and is in charge of DNA replication.
Chromatin is like the millions of neurons that make
up the brain it contains the information about
identity and other functions of the body.

Rough ER (Endoplasmic Reticulum) preforms the
synthesis of proteins and is responsible for
biochemical compounds within a cell. Smooth ER is
the same thing but it does not have ribosomes on it
so it looks smooth.
The liver is like the smooth ER because the liver
cleans out the waste given off by the digestion of
food. Blood vessels are like the rough ER because
they transport needed nutrients to the other
parts of the body.

Golgi bodies transport and store the proteins and
lipids made in the ER.
Intestines are like the Golgi bodies because they
transport the nutrients that were extracted from
the food to where they can be distributed
throughout the body.

Vesicles are little storage vessels that transport
things in, out, and around a cell.
Vesicles are sort of like blood, in that it
transports nutrients and other things like
hormones throughout the body.

Ribosomes are tiny dot-like structures that are
responsible for protein synthesis.
Ribosomes are like bone marrow, in that bone
marrow creates blood like ribosomes create
