So many tools, so little ENGAGEMENT...
It is easy to mistake the excitement a student may show over a particular tool for authentic engagement (Kolb 12).
Q: How can educators ensure that the tools their students are using will actually promote engagement?
A: Teachers should be on the lookout for signs of false engagement. Engagement with technology should be focused on learning goals. If a tool distracts students from learning the required content, it isn't appropriate to the task! Teachers should help students choose tools that effectively showcase what they are learning (Kolb 30).
Examples: Google Docs or slides promote collaboration without the distraction of too many "bells and whistles."
