A long time ago, there were 2 planets, the sun 

and the moon. The sun had a fiery passion and 

the moon was all dark. The sun and moon 

would stay right next to each other, they would 

never move. One day, the moon got jealous 

that the sun was like a bright lit candle. So the 

moon started to make fun of the sun for a long 

time. But the sun wouldn’t listen or move away 

from the moon.

Apollo saw the moon making fun of the sun, so he 

commanded the sun to go to the “Sky Cavern”. The sun 

took 12 hours to get to “Sky Cavern”. Then the moon 

noticed that the sun was gone for the last 12 hours. 

Since the sun wasn’t in the sky, it was dark for those 12 

hours. The moon then remembered that Apollo told the 

sun to go to “Sky Cavern”. So the moon headed to “Sky 

Cavern”. The sun saw the moon heading towards him, 

so he snuck out of the cavern without the moon noticing 

him, and was back in the sky. Since the moon was in 

the cavern, the land was now bright for 12 hours.

Zeus realized that it had been 12 hours the 

moon was out and another 12 hours the sun 

was out. So that made a total of 24 hours. So 

Zeus decided to make the 24 hours into 1 day.  

Zeus told Apollo to tell the sun to stay out for 

12 hours and the moon to stay out for another 

12 hours, creating one day and night. Apollo 

did what Zeus said and told the sun and moon 

what Zeus had said.

So the sun and moon did as planed. One would 

stay out for 12 hours and the other would stay 

in “Sky Cavern”. They would alternate for the 

rest of eternity. The human would stay out 

during the day and would hide during the 

night. This created night and day.
