an emptiness called Chaos, and from it came
the first three immortal beings: Gaea, mother
earth, Tartarus, ruler of the underworld, and
Eros, the god of love. Gaea individually gave
birth to Uranus (father sky), Ourea (Mountains),
and Pantus (Sea). Gaea then made Uranus her
equal so he would surround her on all sides,
and then married him.

Gaea and Uranus gave birth to
three Cyclopes and three
Hundred-Handed Giants, but
because of Uranus's fear of
them, he bound them and
hurled them deep into earth,
with his six children landing
Tartarus.

Next Gaea and Uranus had thirteen titans,
Helios, Selene, Oceanus, Prometheus,
Rhea, Atlas, Themis, Cronus, and
Epimitheus. Because of what he did to
their previous children, Gaea pleaded to
her children to take revenge upon their
father, but again because of fear, all of
them ignored her, except Cronus. Cronus
then promised Gaea he would rescue her
children after overtaking his father. Gaea
then sent Cronus to use a flint sickle to
hurt Uranus.

At nightfall Cronus emasculated his
father, and because he had lost so
much of his power, Uranus stepped
down and Cronus took rein. Gaea then
pleaded for Cronus to rescue her
children in Tartarus, but like his father,
Cronus too was scared of these children
and did not keep his promise to Gaea.

Gaea then prophesized that like Cronus had
to his father, one day Cronus's son would
overtake him too. Soon Cronus married
Rhea, and together they started having
children, but because of Gaea's prophecy
every child that Rhea would give birth to,
Cronus would take and swallow, so that they
could not overtake him like he did his father,
and Gaea's prophecy would not come true.
However, together Rhea and Gaea came up
with a plan to trick Cronus by replacing his
son with a rock and allowing him to swallow
the rock, and the son be safe.
