Hello!
Today I'm going to find
out about the life of a
psychiatrist, what they
do, and how they
contribute to helping
others!

I am just like any other doctor, except I help
to treat sicknesses of the mind, rather than the
body.

To become a
psychiatrist, I had to
get my doctoral
degree from a school
of medicine. In
addition to this,I had
to complete a four-
year residency with
at least three years
specifically in the
practice of
psychiatry.

Every year I spend as
a psychiatrist, I make
about $182,660. That's
$87.82 an hour.

I receive health
insurance for medical,
dental, vision, life, and
disability.
I also get vacation
time and some days
off for when I'm sick!

I like my job because I enjoy providing an important
service to those who need it using my own knowledge
and abilities! I am fulfilled every day I come into my
office, because I know it's another day that I'm going to
live right by helping my fellow man while making a
comfortable living.

Allow me to tell you about my day on the
job! A typical day at work for me is simple.
At 8:15 I settle into my office and check my
email. At nine, the staff has a team meeting.
Today we are discussing clinical trials for a new
treatment! I am then going to meet a new
patient. At twelve PM I eat lunch. Finally I
meet another new patient, do some
paperwork, and head home.

My job as a psychiatrist is important, because I
help treat and cure mental disorders that
would otherwise hinder people in their daily
lives.

One Surprising Fun Fact about psychiatrists is
that over 30% of psychiatrists in the USA are
graduates of foreign medical schools.

I have a fun fact of my own! Did you know
that ADHD wasn't voted into existence by the
American Psychiatric Association (APA) until
1987!?

Wow, no I didn't! I'm glad you
learned so much today. Thanks,
for visiting me and showing
interest in the profession of
psychiatry!
