9th Graders...

Rosa Louise McCauley was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on February 4, 1913. She is most known for her role in the Civil Rights Movement for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to white passengers.
Known by many as "the mother of the Civil Rights' Movement, Rosa Parks' bravery inspired the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
On Thursday, December 1, 1956, after a white bus driver instructed all of the Black passengers to give up their seats for Whites, Rosa refused.

"People always say that I didn't give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn't true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day. I was not old, although some people have an image of me as being old then. I was forty-two. No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in."
- Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks' refusal to move to the "Colored Section" of the bus meant that she was arrested.
After her arrest, Black churches in the area announced to their citizens that they would be boycotting the bus system in Montgomery for how Rosa Parks was treated.
Rosa Parks' bravery inspired those in her community to take action against unfair laws and treatment. She is remembered as being an icon of the Civil Rights Movement.
