Jessica's favorite thing to do was shop, especially for clothes! Shirts, Pants, Skirts, Shoes, Jackets, you name it!

Jessica went shopping almost everyday! She would wear the article of clothing once, then throw it out. 

Ew! I've already worn this shirt once! I have to throw it out!

The next day on the way to school, Jessica was talking about her shopping habits with her friend Erin.

...Yea so I never wear the same thing twice!

Jessica shopping habits like yours and throwing clothes away in the trash is really bad for the environment. 

What do you mean?

Well, the clothes you throw away end up in landfills. Landfills are large areas of land that hold garbage. Clothing, also known as textiles, take over 200 years to decompose! 

When the clothing breaks down, the dyes used to color the clothing leaks into the ground which is toxic to animals in the area! It also releases greenhouse gases into the air!

That sucks, but why should I care?

Well, greenhouse gases contribute to global warming. It can cause extreme weather like blizzards, heat waves, & hurricanes. Also mass extinctions of important animals.
