WHAT IT IS?

The internet is a global network of interconnected computers, servers, phones, and smart appliances that communicate with each other using the transmission control protocol (TCP) standard to enable a fast exchange of information and files, along with other types of services.  

With the Internet, it's possible to access almost any information, communicate with anyone else in the world, and do much more!

The history of the Internet is a fascinating journey that begins in the 1960s and continues to shape the world we live in today. It began with the development of ARPANET, a network created for military and academic communication. In the 1990s, the Internet became commercialized, leading to widespread adoption and the emergence of the World Wide Web. The 21st century witnessed advancements in broadband access, mobile devices, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things. Today, the Internet continues to evolve, shaping communication, commerce, and social interaction on a global scale.

ORIGIN OF THE WORD

The word "internet" is a combination of the terms "inter" and "network." The prefix "inter-" comes from the Latin word "inter," meaning "between" or "among," while "network" refers to a system of interconnected components. 

The term was coined to describe the interconnected network of computers and communication systems that form the basis of the global network we now know as the Internet.

Public Internet: It allows everyone to connect and access various online resources such as websites, social media, and more.

Intranet: Is a private network that operates within an organization or a specific group. It is used to share information, collaborate, and facilitate communication within a closed network.

Darknet: Part of the Internet that is intentionally hidden and cannot be accessed through traditional search engines. It is often associated with illicit activities and anonymous communication channels. 

Wireless Internet: Also known as Wi-Fi, allows users to connect to the Internet wirelessly without the need for physical cables.
