this was a presidential proclamation issued by Abraham Lincoln during the civil war in 1863. it declared that all slaves in the confederate states should free. the proclamation didn't free any slaves, it only applied to states that were in the rebellion against the union. It was a significant turning point in the civil war and helped shift the focus to a struggle to end slavery

The federalists were a political party in the u.s that started in the late 1780's. the party was founded by alexander Hamilton, john Addams, and others. They believed in a strong central government, a national bank, and a strong military. the party dissolved after the election of 1820.

the house of burgesses was the first democratic elected legislative body in the British American colonies. it was established in 1619 in Jamestown Virginia made up of representatives from many settlements in Virginia . It was responsible for passing laws and regulations governing the colony.

is for immigrants

the term "old immigrants" refers to the immigrants who came to the u.s before the 1880's. this group was primarily western Europeans including Germans and Irish. the old immigrants were better educated and more skilled then the new immigrants, and were able to easily get acclimated into American society.

is for Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was a founding father who served as third president from 1801 to 1809. he is best known for his role in drafting the declaration of independence, which stated the principles of American democracy and freedom. Jefferson was an advocate for individual rights an limited government.

is for Kansas- Nebraska act

This was a law passes by the us congress in 1854. the act created the territories of these two states and allowed settlers in those territories to decide whether to allow slavery within their borders. the act was controversial as it repealed the Missouri compromise of 1820.

is for Louisiana purchase

the Louisiana purchase was a land deal between the u.s and France, which the us acquired 827,0 square miles of land west of the Mississippi river for 15 millions. the purchase took place in 1803, during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, and double sized the u.s . it helped to solidify the country's position as a major world power.

it held that a country's wealth was measured by the amount of gold and silver it had, and that was the best way to increase wealth was to encourage exports and discourage imports. in America, mercantilism played a significant role in shaping colonial economic policies, as the British wanted to use colonies for raw materials. this led to many trade restrictions and regulations.

the new deal was a series of policies and programs executed by president franklin d. Roosevelt in the 1930's responding to the great depression. it aimed to provide relief to the unemployed and poor, economic recovery, and the financial system to prevent future economic crises. the new deal helped to shape the modern welfare state

is for Ordinance of 1784

this was a proposed law that would have established a system for governing the western territories of the u.s. it would create 10 new states each would be admitted to the union equal to the 13 original colonies. There would also be public education in the states and abolition of slavery. Even though it was never enacted it led a path for the northwest ordinance of 1787.

is for pearl harbor

the attack on pearl harbor was a surprise military strike by the imperial Japanese navy against the u.s naval base at pearl harbor on December 7,1941. The attack led to the u.s entry into world war ii and was a major turning point. the attack resulted in over 2,ooo deaths of Americans and the destruction of many ships and aircrafts.
