A long time ago, the Quasi-War started in 1798 between two unlikely countries: America and France.

It all started with Citizen Genet and the attack on American neutrality. Citizen Genet was trying to influence American public opinion before meeting with the government. He exploited political divisions between supporters and detractors of the French Revolution which caused him to be denounced by George Washington. Tensions were rising between France and America

Moreover, the Jay Treaty, which was signed by America and Great Britain, was created to help solve some problems between the two countries but France didn't like it one bit. They thought that the Jay Treaty was a violation of the Treaty of Alliance.

The French believed that the Jay Treaty was a violation of the Treaty of Alliance because Britain and France were at war, so any sort of agreement with their enemy was considered a violation of this treaty. Tensions increased between the two countries, and the promise of war was near. The French began harassing American ships which made John Adams, the President of the United States to send ambassadors to France.

The XYZ affair (a diplomacy issue between France and America) only fueled the fire. Soon enough, blows were exchanged-France attacked an American ship, The Constellation.

The first attack was on February 1, 1799, when French ships attempted to board The Constellation, but The Constellation was able to outmaneuver the French. A year later, The Constellation engaged with The Vengence, but the French were able to escape.
