One day there was a Japanese man named Chiune Sugihara that made sure where his fellow troops were moving and that they were ok.

One day in 1940, he saw that some Jewish people from Poland and Lithuania were going to be treated horribly causing some to die. He knew he had to do the right thing.

He had to take action. He gave the Jewish people some passes that would let them live freely in the country.

He saved between 2,000-10,000 Jewish people!

Chiune Sugihara once said "I can not allow these people to die, people who have come to for help with death staring in their eyes. Whatever punishment may be imposed on me, I know I should follow my conscience."

Authors Note
Chiune Sugihara was a Japanese diplomat who lived from 1900-1986. He was named the vice consul of the Japanese consulate in Kaunas, Lithuania. During 1939, his duty was to watch the German and Soviet troop movements. In 1940, Lithuanian and Polish Jews had trouble getting a visa so he gave them some to stay in Japan thinking he was doing the right thing. He saved between 2,00-10,000 Jews. His nickname, the "Japanese Schindler". Later he was named righteous among heroes by the Israeli government in 1985.
