

Martin Luther King, Jr. was a civil rights activist in the 1950s and 1960s. He led non-violent protests to fight for equality of all people including African Americans. He was an intelligent, self-confident, and determined man. He hoped and prayed that America was a society where race were not a problem to be respected as a person. He is considered one of the great orator and his speeches still inspire many today.
Martin Luther King Jr., was born in January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, GA. He grew up in a Christian family, his father was the preacher. He had two siblings, one older and one younger than him.

Martin Luther was a very intelligent young man, he attended a segregated public schools in Georgia, a graduated from high school at the age of fifteen. After graduating high school he started his college education at Morehouse College, in 1948 he graduated with his bachelor's degree in sociology. Later in life he also got his doctor's degree in theology from Boston University.
Later in life in 1953 Martin Luther King Jr. got married with Coretta Scott, they had four children together Yolanda, Martin, Dexter, and Bernice. They were a happy family!
Martin Luther King Jr. grew up seeing so many injustices towards his race, that with time gave him power to his voice and dream for more. His first major civil rights action that he led was Montgomery Bus Boycott, in Alabama when Rosa Parks refused to give her seat to a white person in a public autobus. She was arrested for her courage to say "NO". He supported her until the end, the boycott lasted more than a year.
December 21, 1956 was a day of celebration and pride after more than a year the Supreme Court of the United States had declared unconstitutional the laws requiring segregation on buses, Africans Americans and whites should the buses as equals.

In the period of eleven years, he traveled more than six million miles and spoke more than two thousand five hundred times in places where his presence was required. He was the voice of the people and opened doors to many new opportunities. He wrote five books. Also during this time he was also arrested many times, for being in protests supporting the rights of the people. In this picture he was being arrested on April 12, 1963.
