Anton Van Leeuwenhoek was a Dutch scientist who was best known for
his development and improvement of the microscope and his
contribution towards the study of microbiology. He was the first person
to observe single celled organisms, which are now known as
microorganisms. He also was the first person to observe muscle fibres,
bacteria, blood flow in small blood vessels, and spermatozoa. In 1675,
he discovered the differences in red blood cells in humans, fish, birds,
and swine. His interest in microscopes and understanding of glass
processing lead to his future important discoveries.






Anton Van Leeuwenhoek was a very unique
scientist. He is known as “the Father of
Microbiology” because he achieved in making
some of the most important discoveries in biology.
He was inspired by the glasses used by drapers
allowing him to understand how to grind lenses,
make microscopes, and to make observations.






Anton Van Leeuwenhoek first produced microscopes that were capable of seeing
single cells and magnifications up to two hundred times. His instruments were made
up of simple magnifying glasses, unlike the compound lenses which have more than
one lens. The design of his microscope is very simple, it only uses a single lens on
top of a tiny hole that is located in a brass plate. The instrument was only four inches
long and had to be held up close to the eye, which required good lighting and
patience.



Anton van leeuwenhoek discovered many things. One of these things
was bacteria. In 1676, Anton was the first person to see bacteria. With
those he sent of his drawing and data to the Royal society in London.
After this he began to discover more things. In September 7, 1674
Anton began to do observations in lake water. Through this Anton was
the discovered green charophyte algae.






Anton Van Leeuwenhoek was the first to look at single-celled organism.
At first these organisms were known as animalcules, now they are
known as microorganisms. With this he discovered that these
microorganism can be useful. This organism is powerful enough to
work with life-saving medicine.







Leeuwenhoek was a devoted hard working man. When he was
dying people sent him over 560 letters wondering about different
observations. He sent letters back full of his observations to
London. All together Anton has accomplished many things from
the microscope to discovering organism.
