I'm David and today is my first day of
school. I don't like going to school! Why do
we need an education?! My mom told me
that children were required to go to school
between 1860 and 1890. That's so stupid!!

to go to
school?!

My best friend, Donald hid in the basement of a
warehouse because he didn't want to go to
school.

My younger sister, Amy complained this
morning about going to Kindergarten. I asked
my mom why Amy had to go to Kindergarten
and she said that because more kids are going.
She said that in 1880, only 200 kids were in
Kindergarten and now there are 3,000 in 1900.

My sister, Carrie is in High School and she told
me that there are 15.5 million kids in High
School.

Today, we got a new student, she speaks
Spanish. I talked to her, but I could not
understand her. Her name is Anastasia and I
think we are now friends.

Anastasia told me that her mother goes to
night school since they are immigrants. She
goes to night school so they she could learn
English and qualify for American citizenship.

One day my sister Carrie was at school, in
English, they were writing up practice essays
and her teacher said that between 1880 and
1920, the enrollments in college have
quadrupled.

One day at home, Carrie filled out an
application for the University of Northern Iowa.
On the application, it said that to apply, you
have to have a high school diploma. Lucky for
my sister, she will have one soon!
