Okay we are here! welcome to 1780. This is Andrew at 13. He recently joined the local military to fight against the British.

While Andrew was fighting with his brother, he was captured by the British.

Was it like this cage we are in?

Uh, not exactly

He was released later but barely survived.  If things couldn't get worse, his brother died and his mom died shortly after. He then grew up hating the British

Fast-forward to 1829 when Andrew is elected as the seventh president of the United States.

Because of how tough he was, he won big time with a whopping 219-49, 219 being Andrew Jackson

At the time of his presidency, there were five tribes called Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, and Seminole. 

Illegal miners were found in Cherokee territory, so the Cherokee decided to sue America since by technicality they were part of the USA.

Congress passed the bill called the "Indian Removal Act". Jackson approved it. This act forced Indians to move west. 

Chief Justice Taney said that the Indians are a nation and should stay

He still approved the bill even though it was voted against

John Ridge was one of the leaders of the Cherokee Nation. He thought it was a good idea to just leave and it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

We have to stay and fight back!

Chief John Ross thought the exact opposite

Ridge decided to follow orders and left with half the Cherokees

The rest that didn't want to listen? They were forced out of their homes by using guns and weapons since some didn't wanna leave

The Cherokees weren't removed until Andrew retired
