This book is intended for children in grades 1-5 to raise awareness about mixed racial identities.
This book is dedicated to Professor Kwon and Brandy Smith; thank you for educating me on a variety of important topics!

In Nikki Khanna's article "If You're Half Black, You're Just Black", she goes into detail about how people with mixed racial identities typically feel that they have to describe themselves as one or the other, that they can't be both. Redefining this idea around mixed races is important because races coming together is something that should be celebrated. Being a mixed-race person doesn't diminish one race, it brings a beautiful combination of cultures and traditions that otherwise would not be possible. There is not a lot of representation for mixed race people, who may find themselves having to categorize as one because their actual race is not an option.
Preface

Wow, this sunset is so beautiful! I'm feeling so inspired; I'm going to go home and try to paint it.

Oh no! With the paint colors I have, I can't capture the full beauty of the sunset. I don't know what to do.

Hey Sophie, don't be too upset. From one artist to another, I have a tip for you.
Thank you for coming! What is it?

Try adding these two colors to your palette. They might not look very helpful on their own, but when they are blended with other colors something spectacular happens!

Hmmmm...

You're a genius! Now I can make so many unique, amazing colors since I learned how to mix the paints together. Thank you so much!

Glad I could help! When you blend certain colors, you can make a whole new variety of beautiful options to paint with.

Now I can complete my sunset painting with more colors than I could have ever imagined.

At first, I was nervous to mix these colors because I thought it would take away from their original beauty. I could not have been more wrong!

Thanks to my artistic friend, I now realize that mixing the paints doesn't mean any of them are ruined. It means there is more beauty and uniqueness to go around
