Daddy,
I remember.
I promise.
A Red Letter Day is a day that is so noteworthy that it will always be remembered.

When I was a kid, a little boy told me I couldn't be a teacher when I grew up...

because my skin wasn't white.
"We only have white teachers here," he said. "so you have to grow up and be something else."

That made me sad, and mad, and confused. Why does my skin color matter? The rest of the day, I looked all around me, and guess what I saw?

Lots of teachers, and not one of them looked like me.

That made me even more confused.
Was the little boy right?
I went home that day and talked to my daddy.

And he told me about all kinds of people who look just like me who did great, amazing, wonderful things!

This made me really, really, really happy!

The world has always taught me that these are what great men look like.
In school, I wasn't always taught about the people who look like me who grew up to do amazing things.
