Once there was a girl named Lucy. She loved
school, but her least favorite subject was
math. She didn't like math because she never
understood what the teacher was showing
them. One day, they were learning about
multiplying and dividing fractions, reciprocals,
expressions, and the multiplying and dividing
of decimals.

We will be learning about multiplying
and dividing fractions, reciprocals,
expressions, and the multiplying and
dividing of decimals.

"Oh no! I can never figure this out!" Lucy screeched.
The bell rang. All of Lucy's fellow classmates were taking their seats, ready to
learn. Lucy's friend, Camille, who sits next to her, looks at the board, smiling.
"What's got you so happy?" Lucy questioned.
"This lesson is going to be great! I've learned this from my dad." Camille
replied.
"That makes one of us." Lucy mumbled under her breath.
"Good morning class!" Mrs. David said happily.
"Good morning Mrs. David." the class said in sync.
"We will be learning a lot today, so be ready for a lot of knowledge!"
The class shuffled to get their notebooks and pencils for notes. Lucy
scrambled for hers. When everyone was situated, Mrs. David continued with
the lesson. "Let's start with multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals. I
know it looks hard, but it truly isn't once you get the hang of it." Mrs. David
spoke calmly whilst writing on the board. "Here is an example of each
multiplying and dividing. 3/4*5/6, 9/10\4/6, 5.6*2.8, and 9.6/3.4. Before
you all think, '" This is too hard! I'll never get this right!"' I will show you the
ways to solve it. I'll start with 3/4*5/6.
Fractions are also called rational numbers, or numbers that equal their
opposite.

3 5 15
-- x -- = --
4 6 24
You just multiply across. Easy, right? Also, you can multiply the reciprocal, or
opposite, to equal 1, like 3/4*4/3. Now for the dividing.
9 4
-- / --
10 6
I'm going to show you the common denominator way to solve this;
9 54 4 40
-- = -- -- = ---
10 60 6 60
54 40 94 34 17
-- + -- = --- = 1 -- = 1 --
60 60 60 60 30
That wasn't too hard.

Next is decimals. I'll start with multiplying decimals, then dividing. We
are going to use the standard algorithm, or standard multiplication, to
solve this.
5.6
2.8
------
448
1120
--------
1568
Then, you count how many decimal places there are(not including
zero), in this case, 2.
The answer is 15.68.

"Oh, I see now!" Lucy blurted out, " You just change the
denominator to be similar, and just multiply the
decimals like they are regular numbers!"
"That's right!" Mrs. David announced.
"Now, as I was saying, we need to get back to dividing
decimals!" Mrs. David exclaimed. The whole class
groaned. "Oh, come on now! The lesson will be halfway
over when this is done!"
The entire class sat up immediately, pencils in hand,
ready to take notes.
"Well then," Mrs. David retorted, "as I was going to say,
let's begin with dividing decimals."

It's very simple.
0 2.8
_____
3.4 |9.6
68
28
The answer would be 2.8. Not too hard.
