Dad, what is that smoke coming from the pipes?
That carbon dioxide coming from the factory?

What's that?
I will explain.
Carbon dioxide is a chemical that is created once a fossil fuel is burned. Carbon Dioxide is also a greenhouse gas.
So, is carbon bad for the environment?
Carbon Dioxide has many impacts on the environment.

Once carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere, it damages the ozone layer, which protects the Earth from the Sun's UV-rays

Those UV-rays cause the temperatures around the world to increase.

Global average temperatures have increased by over 2 degrees Fahrenheit since 1850 mainly because of carbon emissions.
Warmer temperatures result in more ice caps melting which increases the sea level around the world. The warming of the planet also leaves less areas for habitats for organisms.
Over the last year, over 750 million tons of ice melt because of the global warming.

That's crazy! How does the carbon dioxide end up in the Atmosphere to begin with.

There are many ways carbon dioxide is released.
