One Monday morning at the Murphy house, the
family gathered around the table for breakfast.
Mrs. Murphy made pancakes for Joe,
Stephanie, and Junior as Mr. Murphy got
dressed for work. Buster, an ex-police dog, sat
beside Joe, hoping for him to drop his food.
Trisha, the maid, has just arrived and began
cleaning in the guest room.

Mr. Murphy came in the kitchen wearing his
nicest grey suit. However, he wasn’t wearing
the new gold cufflinks she had bought him for
their anniversary. She asked him “Why aren’t
you wearing your cufflinks, do you not like
them?” “No,” he said, “I couldn’t find them. I
left them on the table yesterday after you gave
them to me, but they weren’t there.”

Mr. Murphy, upset for losing his new gift, sits
down for breakfast before he leaves for work.
“Hey Buster,” he says with a smirk, “keep an
eye out for my cufflinks, will you?” Buster
barks at him and leaves to begin his
investigation.

Buster walks into Mr. and Mrs. Murphy’s
bedroom to investigate. He sniffs around the
table where the cufflinks were last. He finds an
empty case for the cufflinks on the floor, a
short strand of hair, and residue of talcum
powder. After examining each clue, Buster
continues his investigation to find the missing
cufflinks.

Being the talented detective Buster is, he
figured out that the only two people in the
house who use talcum powder would have
been either the maid or Mrs. Murphy. Deciding
that the maid would be more likely to steal the
cufflinks, he went to investigate the maid.

Buster entered the living room, where the
maid was cleaning. Buster decided to look
around. He sniffed through her purse, hoping
that maybe she put them in there. However,
the cufflinks weren’t there. He then decided to
start searching her, to see if she the cufflinks
on her person. After sniffing her for a few
minutes and checking all of her pockets, the
cufflinks were nowhere to be found. Buster
concluded that the maid had not taken the
cufflinks.

Buster thought to himself who else would have
used talcum powder. Mrs. Murphy. Buster
didn’t think that it was possible for her to have
stolen her husband’s gift from her, however
decided to investigate anyway.

Buster entered the kitchen, where Mrs. Murphy
was making the kids lunches. Buster looked in
Mrs. Murphy’s purse first, like he did with the
maid. However, no luck. The cufflinks were not
there. Buster then looked in Mrs. Murphy’s
jacket. Again, the cufflinks were not there.
Buster then began to check if Mrs. Murphy had
the cufflinks on her. He began sniffing her to
check if she had the cufflinks, but he could not
find them. In disappointment, Buster left to
reexamine the crime scene.

Buster began looking at the clues again. He
thought to himself who else could possibly
have stolen the cufflinks: Joe, Stephanie, and
Junior. He then remembered the strand of hair
he found. He realized that Joe’s hair was about
the same length and color of the hair he found.
He went to investigate.

Buster entered Joe’s room to search for the
cufflinks. He looked all around Joe’s room while
Joe got ready for school. He checked under the
bed, in the closet, in the drawers. However,
Buster could not find the cufflinks. He then
went to search Joe. Buster decided to trick Joe
into playing with him so that he could check
his person. After searching Joe for a few
minutes, Buster could find no trace of the
cufflinks and gave up.
