Welcome to the Wild Class, filled with wild people, with a wild teacher.
Today in class, they are learning about demography.

Being the great student he is, a boy called Teddy volunteered to spread his knowledge about demography to the class. He didn't know a boy from Chad will change the school forever.
What is Demography?

Demography is the study of the human population through statistics.
It's like the science of populations and it helps us understand population dynamics by looking at birth, death and migration.
Excellent presentation Teddy! Any questions?

Uh oh! it's Chase, he hates geography and he hates Canada.
Why is it even important? It sounds useless.

It's important to study because it allows us to imagine and reimagine the future.
Also it helps us understand and solve the problems the world faces!

Great answer Teddy! Was there anything we could take away from this presentation?
How about you Thomas?

I don't really agree with the presentation because we should instead focus on decreasing the amount of people so we can have more food!
Malthusian Theory
(He thinks humans grow faster than food)

Wrong! We don't need to worry about that since with the new technology, we're gonna be able to give enough food to everyone!
Boserup's Theory

Woah, I'm glad that you guys are engaged but we have to respect each others opinions!
Speaking of others, I didn't even have the chance to introduce you guys our new classmate from Chad!

Why did he even decide to come to Canada? Canada sucks! Chad seems so much more cooler.

Quality of Life
Maybe to you but the truth is, Chad is very low on the HDI, and there are way too many people in there which causes a ton of problems for them.
HDI = Human Development Index (It tells us the quality of life in a country.
He was talking about overpopulation which makes it difficult to take care of everyone in the country.

Sorry Imani, I ran out of time but Teddy can show you around during lunch if you would like.
The Bell rung for lunch just as the new student walked into class.

Okay!

Hey Imani! I'm Teddy, what brought you to Missisauga?
My dad got a job here, also in Chad there was bad healthcare so we migrated here!
These are examples of push and pull factors in Migration

Wow, what's that!?
That's a Miway bus, in Canada, we try our best to provide good transportation so everyone can get to where they wanna go! Let's stop by at my house

Wow, your house is so tall, and everyone's walking around!
It's called compact building and it helps save the land! Other people love using the land and it promotes a walkable community!

Wow, Canada is awesome!
That's because we promote smart growth, which makes it easier to live! How was life in Chad, Imani?

Well, life in Chad was not that good. I had 5 siblings because my parents wanted to ensure at least one of us survived. My brothers struggled a lot because there was not enough food and resources for them in the city. Only me and my brother Jay were able to come here to Canada.
He's talking about fertility rate and problems from urbanization
