Can you point on the map where Salvador, Bahia is?
Just follow the red arrow.
Brazil is the largest country on the South
American continent.
There are many beaches in Bahia because it is on
the coast of Brazil where the Atlantic Ocean is.

Mestre in Portuguese means master. It is pronounced mesh-
tree.
Mestre Bimba is famous because he created a Brazilian
martial art form called Capoeira Regional. It is pronounced
ka-po-eh-ra.
He is also known for being a musician, a capoeira teacher and
for opening the first capoeira martial art academy in the
world.
It was called Academia-Escola de Cultura Regional, which
means Academy-School of Regional Culture.

Mestre Bimba only attended elementary school.

So what is Capoeira?
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art form that originated
from African slaves brought to Brazil during the colonial
period.
Colonial period means a time in history when kings and
queens ruled over other lands.
Capoeira looks like a dance and it is a combination of
dance, self-defense movements, acrobatic movements,
and music.
