Hi my name is Sarah the sea otter and this
is my son Charles. We live in the bay of
Monterrey. The water is cold its about
50 degrees in the water but we don't mind.

In the Monterrey there are a lot of plants
and animals such as sea weed, kelp,
snails, and clams. Clams are my favorite
to eat. I crack them on my belly with a
rock.

One day there was a oil spill from a big
boat.

A lot of animals got covered in
oil.

A lot of these animals we need to eat to get
energy to swim and to stay up and not fall
a sleep.

This is called a food chain. A food chain
is what eats what, for example crabs eat
plants, worms, and eggs from other fish.

Then I would eat the crab and
some thing like a great white shark
wold eat me

Boo! don't eat me

There also something called the energy
pyramid. It has different levels for different
animals. The first level of animals is called
producer they give energy to other animals
such as sea weed and kelp

Then there's the primary consumers such
as the crab. Then there's secondary
consumers such as me the otter!
Then tertiary consumers like the shark

We have to take care of this oil because the
ocean is very important to a lot of animals.
The ocean gives these animals a place to live,
gather food , and to over all too survive.
