Vasily III1479-1533
Once being on the way from Pereslavl Vasily III
visited the new Sloboda (Alexandrov). The prince
liked the beautiful hilly position of the settlement.
The river added to its beauty. What is more, the
forests were rich in animals and birds. His favourite
entertainment was falconry.Gradually his courtyard
grew and such amazing cathedrals as the Trinity
Cathedral, the Church of the Holy Virgin, the Church
of Crucifixion were erected.
Ivan Grozny1530-1584
The fact that Ivan the Terrible made Alexandrov his
residence is known all over the world. Our town was the
political and the cultural center of the country in 1565-
1581. He and his family stayed there during the plague
epidemic. We believe that the most important thing is
that the first printing-house was removed to Alexanrova
Sloboda from Moscow. The Psalter was published there
by the followers of Ivan Fedorov. Who knows, maybe,
the lost library of Ivan IV is somewhere close to us. We
hope so!
Peter I1672-1625
Even the name of Peter the Great is
connected with our town. He built
the first Russian ships in Pereslavl
and Alexandrova Sloboda.
Elizaveta Petrovna1709-1761
Elizabeth loved Alexandrova Sloboda and often
came there. It was she who built the stables, do
you know where? Imagine our school №1 is
situated on this site now! She is considered to
be a great supporter of education. Moscow
University, the Academy of Art, the Winter
Palace were created during her reign.
