The Byzantine Empire was made up of 9
cities. Constantine, the ruler of this empire,
had moved the capital from Rome to
Byzantine also known as Turkey. The capital
was located on the east part of the empire.
This made Byzantine Empire also known as
Eastern Roman Empire. The Eastern Roman
Empire had all the power right after
Constantine's death. Since it had all the
power, not like the Western Roman Empire
they didn't fall to the Germanic Tribes.




The first known name of the city is
Byzantium. It then took the name
Konstantinoupolis(city of Constantine).
Constantine I, transferred the capital
from its historic base,Rome to
Byzantium in 330 AD and the new
capital was New Rome. Modelled on
Rome itself, on and around seven hills.
Later Constantine the Great chose it as
his new capital, renaming it
Constantinople. Three main attractions
are Grand Bazaar, Sultanahment square,
and the Topkapi Palace. The Grand
Bazaar is a huge covered market. The
shops sell gold and silver jewelry,
hookahs, slippers, clothes and,carpets.

Justinian 1 known as Justinian the
Great and also Saint Justinian the
Great in the Eastern Orthodox Church,
was a Byzantine emperor from 527 to
565. He was born on May 11th 483 AD
and died on november 14th 565 AD.
Justinian was not born into a royal
family. His uncle Justin was a rising
star in the emperor's imperial guard,
and adopted Justinian and had him move
to Constantinople. In 525 Justinian
married Theodora, Theodora was
considered below his class but they
didnt care.




Theodora is wife of the emperor Justinian
1. Theodora is known as one of the first
rulers to recognize the rights of women.
525 A.D. In Antioch Theodora first met
Justinian when he was 40. Her role in the
byzantine empire was empress, she was
one of the most powerful of the Byzantine
Empresses.
