       'Counting by 7s' is a fantastic book written by the 

Author 'Holly Goldberg Sloan'. It is a story about  

Willow Chance, a 12 year old genius girl, who is very 

happy with her parents who adopted her as a baby. 

       Her most interest is her garden and its harvest, but 

she also shows great talent in learning new languages 

just to communicate with other people that she finds 

curious or interesting. She used to pay careful 

attention to her health and that of everyone she 

meets.

       Willow's parents die in a car crash. She comes   to 

know about this bitter truth when she comes home from 

school   and she breaks down completely.She is all alone 

after that incident and she is not herself anymore from 

that time on.

       At school almost all other students think that she is a 

nerd, teases her and they start talking behind her back.

       At the beginning of her eighth grade 

school year, she is accused of cheating on 

a test and she was taken to the school 

counselor, Dell Duke.

       Dell Duke quickly realizes that Willow 

is a genius girl and that she did not cheat 

on the test that she was given but he does 

not tell anyone because he wants to know 

more about Willow and become his friend.

       Willow meets two Vietnamese people, a 

brother and sister whose names are Mai, the 

younger one and Quang-ha, the older one and 

learns Vietnamese to communicate better with 

them.
